Applications have been invited for 18 {+t} {+h} Mathematics Training and Talent Search programme (MT & TS 2010) funded by National Board for Higher Mathematics. The objective of the programme is to expose young students to the excitement of problem-solving, to promote independent mathematical thinking and to prepare them for higher aspects of mathematics.

The MTTS programme will conducted be at three levels—level ‘O’, level I and level II. In level ‘O’, there will be courses in linear algebra, analysis and number theory / discrete mathematics. In level I and II there will be courses on algebra, analysis and topology. There will be seminars by students at all levels.

Eligibility for Level ‘O’: first year undergraduate (B.Sc./ B.Stat./ B.Tech.) students with mathematics as one of their subjects.

Level I: second and final year undergraduate (B.Sc./ B.Stat./ B.Tech.) students with mathematics as one of their subjects.

Level II- first year postgraduate (M.Sc./ M. Stat., M.Tech.) students with mathematics as one of the subjects.

There are three venues for MTTS 2010—Regional Institute of Education, Mysore during May 17- June 12, 2010 (All 3 levels), Harish Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad during May 24-June 19, 2010 (Level ‘O’), Visvabharathi University, Santhiniketan, West Bangal, during May 24-June 19, 2010 (Level ‘O’).

National Institute of Personnel Management Kolkata Admission open for 2 Years PG Diploma in Personnel Management (Distance Learning).

NIPM Eligibility: Candidates should at least be Graduates from a recognized University or its equivalent, with a minimum of 50% marks in the degree examination.

In case of honours degree or Master’s degree as also in case of candidates having 3 Years working experience in HR profession or 5 Years working experience in Industry or those who are professionally qualified as Chartered / Costs / Cs / Management Accounts etc., the requirement of 50% of marks may be waived.

3. Perquisites of Indian Navy:
During the entire period of training and thereafter, sailors are given books, reading material, uniform, food and accommodation etc., free of cost.
Indian Navy Sailors are entitled to medical treatment and Leave Travel Concession India for self and dependents, Group Housing benefits and other privileges like Insurance cover.
Sailors in Indian Navy also have the privilege to avail annual and casual leave as per current regulations. Children education and house rent allowances are also admissible.
Written, Physical & Medical Exam for Indian Navy:

1. Written Test for Interview:

* The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and of objective type.
* The part – I question paper will have questions of English & General Knowledge, Science and Mathematics. The standard of question paper will be that of Indian Navy after 10+2.
* The part – II question paper will have additional sections of Electronics, Electrical and Mechanical. The candidate will be required to attempt only one of the sections, which will be as per the specialisation in which he has completed the three years Diploma.
* However, final allocation of branch will be done at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) which will be indicated in call up letters dispatched to the candidates. Duration of question paper (both parts) will be of 90 minutes.

2. Physical Fitness Test for Navy:

* Qualifying in Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is mandatory for selection.
* PFT will consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 25 squat ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push – ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk.

3. Medical Standards for Indian Navy:

* Medical examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors on entry.
* Minimum height 157 cms. Weight and Chest should be proportionate. Minimum Chest expansion of 5 cms.
* Good mental, medical and physical health free from any disease / disability, likely to interfere with efficient performance of duties. Colour perception: CP – II.
* No Cardio – vascular disease, surgical deformities like knock knee, flat feet etc., infection of ears, no history of fits or psychiatric ailment, varicose vein, corrective surgery for eye sight etc.
* Medical standard should be as per the detailed guidelines issued by IHQ MoD (Navy) in No (Spl) 01/2008.
* Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from teeth prior to examination.

Four of the IIMs in Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh would be set up this year and become operational from the next academic year.

The others would be set up next year and become operational in 2011.

In Tamil Nadu, the IIM would come up in Tiruchi, in Haryana at Rohtak, in Jharkhand at Ranchi and in Chhattisgarh at Raipur. The location for the institutes in the other three States would be decided later.

In the first year several executive programmes, including in the public policy domain focussing on civil and municipal services, would also be started.

In the first phase, the intake in the postgraduate course would be 140 students and eventually it would reach 560. The admissions would be made through a common admission test.

The Cabinet approved an outlay of Rs.451 crore, Rs.333 crore for non-recurring expenditure and Rs.118 crore towards recurring expenditure in the 11th and 12th Plan periods for each IIM.

Chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the meeting also gave its nod for increasing the authorised share capital of the National Minorities Development Finance Corporation from Rs.850 crore to Rs.1,000 crore. The Centre’s share would be Rs.650 crore, and that of State governments Rs.260 crore.

The balance of Rs.90 crore would be obtained as contributions from individuals and organizations.

Further, the Cabinet approved implementation of reservation for students belonging to the SCs/STs, and the OBCs in the National Institute of Technology at Jirania in Tripura.
